COPAS Launches Hard Metal Machining Capabilities

COPAS are proud to introduce their new fully automated hard metal machining centre of excellence, with an investment of £1.5million.

After extensive product research, Shaun Copas, Managing Director, has created a twin track strategy to develop their hard metal machining capabilities for the aerospace sector, through the introduction of the Hermle C42U Dynamic HS Flex ZM88, fully automated with an HSK A63 spindle, and the DMC 85 MB RS3, fully automated with an HSK 100 Spindle and capacity to produce hard metal precision engineered components up to 630mm square, 24/7, in a range of specialist hard metals, giving COPAS maximum efficiency, accuracy and functionality.

COPAS, leaders in lean manufacturing of precision engineered components, will pass on the cost efficiencies to their customers, that this new 24/7 hard metal fully automated production capability will deliver.

This cutting-edge hard metal machining centre will be equipped with market leaders supporting areas such as; Haimer heat shrink, balancing and pre-setting, Haimer and Nikken holders, Lang work holding, and a range of Mitsubishi hard metal tooling.

The engineering department will use a new Autodesk Ultimate software suite that will translate customers specified drawings into programmable component parts.

This new state of the art hard metal machining facility is a strategic part of COPAS’ five-year growth strategy, which includes the construction of a new 35,000sq ft precision engineering, centre of excellence.

COPAS has already invested over £2.5 million into 4 axis horizontal milling capabilities and additional 5 axis milling centres over the last 2 years.
